- Pack according to Maharashtra's season — check the local weather a few days before departure and pack accordingly.
- Keep your booking voucher and driver/vehicle details handy (sent by Tripleads after confirmation).
- Please be ready at the pickup point 10–15 minutes before the scheduled time to keep the itinerary on track.
- Carry some cash for personal expenses, tips and anything not covered under Inclusions — card/UPI acceptance can be patchy in remote areas.

- Hill/high-altitude routes can cause motion sickness or breathlessness — carry basic medication and inform the driver if you need frequent stops.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. What is the distance from Mumbai to Gangapur (Ganagapur) Datta temple by road, and how long does it take?
Gangapur is about 520 to 550 km from Mumbai. The drive normally takes ten to eleven hours with stops, via Pune, Solapur, Akkalkot and Afzalpur, so we usually plan an overnight stay at Akkalkot first.
Q2. How far is Gangapur from Akkalkot, and which state is it in?
Gangapur is about 45 to 55 km from Akkalkot, roughly one to one and a half hours by road. It is in Kalaburagi district of Karnataka, so the cab crosses the state border, and inter-state taxes are planned in your quotation.
Q3. What is the Nirguna Paduka at Gangapur Datta temple, and why do devotees visit it?
It refers to the sandals of Shri Narasimha Saraswati Swami, which are worshipped at the main temple in Gangapur. Devotees believe he spent his last years here, so the Paduka Mandir is the heart of the pilgrimage. For rituals and details, the local priests are the best guide.
Q4. What is Gangapur Sangam, and can we take a bath there?
The Sangam is the confluence of the Bhima and Amarja rivers, a short distance from the village. Many pilgrims pray or bathe here, but water level, season and local rules vary, so we check the conditions before you go. Follow the instructions of the local committee for safety.
Q5. What is Madhukari at Gangapur, and can visitors take part?
Madhukari is a traditional practice at Gangapur in which devotees ask for simple food from households, as a custom of humility. Visitors may take part if they wish, following local rules, and we explain the custom before you reach Gangapur.
Q6. What are the Gangapur Datta temple timings, and which days are the busiest?
The temple generally opens early in the morning and stays open through the day, with aartis at fixed times, but timings change on festival days, so we confirm the latest schedule before your trip. Thursdays, Pournima, Guru Dwadashi and Datta Jayanti are the busies
Q7. Is a cab better than a train or bus for a Mumbai to Akkalkot Gangapur trip, and what does the package include?
A cab is far more practical, because direct trains and buses are limited and the last stretch to Gangapur needs local transport. The price includes a private AC cab, driver, fuel, tolls, parking and inter-state taxes as per the plan, and sightseeing guidance. Stay, meals, puja items, entry tickets, guide charges and personal expenses are extra.

Mumbai To Akkalkot Gangapur Trip — Travel Guide
Planning a Mumbai to Akkalkot Gangapur Trip? A Practical Guide for 2, 3 and 4 Days
If you have searched “Mumbai to Akkalkot Gangapur trip” and found only temple summaries and a few bus timings, this guide is for you. Akkalkot and Gangapur are two of the most important Datta pilgrimage places in Maharashtra and Karnataka, and many families plan the visit around a vow or Datta Jayanti. The journey is long and crosses a state border, and the crowd changes sharply with the day. As a travel planner at Trip Leads, I have written this guide to help you plan with confidence.
What is Akkalkot?
Akkalkot is a town in Solapur district, associated with Shri Swami Samarth Maharaj. Devotees regard him as an avatar of Dattatreya, and believe he lived here for many years in the 19th century. The Vatavriksha Swami Samarth Mandir, the Samadhi Math and the Annachatra, which serves meals to devotees, are the main places for pilgrims. Thursdays are special for many devotees, so the town is busier then.
What is Gangapur?
Gangapur, also spelt Ganagapur, is a village in Kalaburagi district (earlier Gulbarga) of Karnataka, on the bank of the Bhima river. It is associated with Shri Narasimha Saraswati Swami, a Datta avatar in the tradition, who is believed to have spent the last years of his life here. Devotees visit the Nirguna Paduka Mandir, where the sandals of the Guru are worshipped, and the Sangam, where the Bhima and Amarja rivers meet, a short distance from the village. Many pilgrims also follow the Madhukari tradition, asking for simple food from households in the village, as a custom of humility. For exact history, rituals and customs, the local priests and the temple committee are the best sources.
The route and the distance
Akkalkot is about 460 to 490 km from Mumbai, and Gangapur is about 520 to 550 km. The drive to Akkalkot normally takes eight to nine hours with stops. A common route goes along the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, then the Pune-Solapur highway through Indapur and Solapur, to Akkalkot. From Akkalkot, Gangapur is about 45 to 55 km, roughly one to one and a half hours, through Afzalpur in Karnataka. We recommend leaving by 5:00 to 5:30 AM so you reach Akkalkot by mid-afternoon.
Option A: A 2 day, 1 night trip
Day 1 is the drive and an evening darshan at Akkalkot. On Day 2 you visit Gangapur in the morning and begin the return by midday. The return is about 11 to 12 hours, so you reach Mumbai very late. It suits only fit travellers, and I always suggest the 3 day plan if you can manage it.
Option B: A 3 day, 2 night trip
This is the plan I recommend. You stay one night in Akkalkot and one in Gangapur, so you can take your time at the Sangam and the Paduka Mandir. Day 3 is a comfortable return with stops.
Option C: A 4 day, 3 night trip
After Gangapur, you drive to Tuljapur, about three to three and a half hours, and stay overnight. On Day 4 you take morning darshan at Tulja Bhavani and return to Mumbai, which is about 450 km. It splits the return drive and suits families and elders.
The places worth your time
Vatavriksha Swami Samarth Mandir, Akkalkot: The main shrine near the banyan tree where Swami Samarth is said to have sat.
Samadhi Math, Akkalkot: The place associated with the samadhi of the saint, a calm and orderly stop.
Annachatra, Akkalkot: The community kitchen, where devotees take simple prasad meals, subject to timings and rules.
Akkalkot Palace and Museum (optional): The old royal palace of the Akkalkot state, with a small museum, subject to opening days.
Datta Mandir (Nirguna Paduka), Gangapur: The main shrine, where the sandals of Shri Narasimha Saraswati Swami are worshipped. A simple, devotional temple.
Sangam, Gangapur: The confluence of the Bhima and Amarja rivers, a short distance from the village. Devotees pray here and may bathe, subject to water level and rules.
Audumbar Vriksha and sacred sites, Gangapur: A sacred fig tree and several small shrines in the village that pilgrims visit as part of the traditional yatra.
Madhukari, Gangapur: A traditional practice at Gangapur. If you wish to take part, we explain the custom beforehand, and you follow the local rules.
Tulja Bhavani Temple, Tuljapur (Option C): One of the most important Shakti shrines in Maharashtra, and the kuldevi of many families. Very crowded during Navratri.
Best time to visit Akkalkot and Gangapur
October to February is the most comfortable. Summer is hot and dry, so plan temple visits for the early morning. Monsoon is green, but heavy rain can slow the road and raise the river at the Sangam. Thursdays, Pournima, Guru Dwadashi and Datta Jayanti bring heavy crowds. A weekday morning is always calmer.
What to eat
Food around both temples is simple and vegetarian. Look for hot poha, jowar bhakri with pithla, thecha, sabudana khichdi and a basic Maharashtrian thali. In Akkalkot, many pilgrims take prasad at the Annachatra. In Gangapur, food options are limited, so we plan meals at your stay and carry snacks. Tell us your food preference and we will suggest suitable places.
Where to stay
Akkalkot has dharmashalas, devotee lodges and a few hotels. Gangapur has simple lodges and devotee facilities, so comfortable options are limited, and we confirm availability in advance. Rooms fill fast on Thursdays and festival days, so book early. Tell us your budget and group size, and we will suggest options.
Practical tips from the road
Start early, since the drive is long and the border formalities take a little time. Carry photo ID, cash for puja items and parking, and water and snacks. Dress modestly and carry easy-to-remove footwear. Keep your belongings close in crowded lanes. If you plan to bathe at the Sangam, check the water level and follow local instructions. For elders, we plan extra rest and keep the walking short.
Which option should you choose?
For a fast-track visit, choose the 2 day trip. For a comfortable plan with a night in each place, choose the 3 day trip. To add Tuljapur and split the return, choose the 4 day tour package. If you cannot decide, tell us your group size, ages and interests, and we will recommend what fits best.
