Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. What is the distance from Mumbai to Dapoli, and how long does it take by road?
Dapoli is roughly 215 to 235 km from Mumbai, depending on your starting point, and the drive takes about five and a half to six and a half hours with stops. Highway work, weekend traffic and the Khed to Dapoli hill road can add time, especially in the monsoon.
Q2. Can we do a Mumbai to Dapoli trip in one day?
It is possible on paper, but it means around twelve hours on the road for a couple of hours at the beach, which is tiring and rushed. A 2 day plan is the minimum we recommend, and a 3 day plan is the most comfortable.
Q3. What is the best time to visit Dapoli?
October to February is the best time, with a cool breeze and calm sea. March to May is hot but is mango season, and June to September is the monsoon, when the sea is rough and swimming is unsafe, though the region turns lush and green.
Q4. Is dolphin watching available at Karde Beach, and when is the best time?
Boat rides for dolphin watching run from Karde in the fair season, usually in the early morning, but sightings are never guaranteed and the service stops in the monsoon. Please book only through licensed operators, and conditions can change, so we confirm for your date.
Q5. What can we see near Dapoli apart from beaches?
You can visit the Panhalekaji Caves, the Keshavraj Temple at Asud and, a short drive away, Harnai’s fish market and the sea forts of Suvarnadurg and Kanakdurg. Our 4 day plan also adds Anjarle.
Q6. Is swimming safe at Dapoli’s beaches?
The beaches are calm in the fair season, but currents can change quickly, so swim only in the safe zone that locals point out, avoid deep water and never swim after dark. In the monsoon, swimming is unsafe.
Q7. Is a cab better than a bus or train, and what does the package include?
A cab is more practical, because Dapoli has no railway station, the nearest being Khed about 70 km away, and public transport needs changes. The price includes a private AC cab, driver, fuel, tolls, parking and sightseeing guidance. Stay, meals, entry tickets, boat charges, dolphin safari, water sports, puja items, guide fees and personal expenses depend on the option and your quotation.

Mumbai To Dapoli Trip — Travel Guide
Planning a Mumbai to Dapoli Trip? A Practical Guide for 2, 3 and 4 Days
If you have searched “Mumbai to Dapoli trip” and found lists of beaches but no clear plan, this guide is for you. Dapoli is one of the quieter Konkan getaways within reach of Mumbai, and it is popular with families, couples and nature lovers. But the road is long, the monsoon changes everything and some places are better visited at specific times. As a travel planner at Trip Leads, I have written this guide to help you plan with confidence.
The route and the distance
Dapoli is roughly 215 to 235 km from Mumbai by road, depending on your starting point, and the drive takes about five and a half to six and a half hours with stops. A common route goes through Panvel, Pen and Wadkhal, then follows the Mumbai-Goa highway through Nagothane, Kolad, Mangaon and Mahad to Khed. From Khed, a hill road leads to Dapoli, a further 70 km or so. The highway is under widening work in places, and weekend or festival traffic can add an hour or more, so we choose the best leaving time for your date.
Why we do not suggest a 1 day trip
Many websites advertise a Dapoli one day trip from Mumbai. In reality, you would spend about twelve hours on the road for a couple of hours at the beach, which is tiring and unsafe if you drive back after dark. It leaves no time for the beaches, caves or forts. That is why this package begins at two days.
Option A: A 2 day, 1 night trip
Day 1 is the drive and an evening at Murud Beach. Day 2 is a morning at Karde Beach, a visit to the Keshavraj Temple and a return to Mumbai. It suits travellers who enjoy long road days and want to use one night well.
Option B: A 3 day, 2 night trip
This is the plan I recommend. You stay two nights in Dapoli, so Day 2 can be used for Harnai and its forts without carrying luggage. Day 3 is for the Panhalekaji Caves and a calm return. Senior citizens and families with children especially benefit.
Option C: A 4 day, 3 night trip
This plan adds Anjarle. Day 2 covers Dapoli’s own beaches and sights. On Day 3 you go to Harnai and Suvarnadurg, and then on to Anjarle for the night. Day 4 is a relaxed return. It turns a beach weekend into a coastal journey.
The places worth your time
Murud Beach, Dapoli: A wide, clean beach lined with casuarina and coconut trees. It is good for a walk and a sunset. Not to be confused with Murud-Janjira in Raigad district.
Karde Beach: A calm beach known for dolphin sightings in the fair season, when boats take visitors out in the early morning. Sightings are never guaranteed, and boats should be booked through licensed operators.
Ladghar Beach: A quieter beach near the village of Ladghar, good for a slow walk and a swim in a safe zone.
Kolthare Beach: A beach known for its calm waters and surrounding greenery.
Panhalekaji Caves: A group of rock-cut caves, about 28 to 29 in number, cut into a hillside near Panhale village, about 3 km from Dapoli. They are thought to date from the early centuries and are associated with Buddhist use. A small and quiet site, good for history lovers.
Keshavraj Temple, Asud: A Vishnu temple in the village of Asud, about 5 km from Dapoli, set among coconut groves.
Harnai (Options B and C): A fishing port town known for its early morning fish auction, when boats unload the day’s catch. Go early and keep a respectful distance from the work.
Suvarnadurg (Options B and C): A Maratha sea fort on an island off Harnai, reached by a short boat ride. Boat services depend on the tide and season, and stop in the monsoon.
Kanakdurg and Gopalgad (Options B and C): Two smaller forts near Harnai, with views over the sea and the coast.
Anjarle (Option C): A peaceful coastal village known for its Kadyavarcha Ganpati, a Ganesha temple on a cliff reached by a flight of steps, and its quiet beach.
Tides, boats and the monsoon
Beach conditions, boat services and some paths change with the season. In the monsoon, the sea is rough and swimming is unsafe, and boat rides to Suvarnadurg and dolphin watching stop. Cave and temple visits remain possible, but steps can be slippery, so wear shoes with a good grip. We check conditions for your date and adjust the plan.
Best time to visit
October to February is the best time, with a cool breeze, calm sea and clear skies. March to May is hot, so plan beach time for the early morning and the evening. It is also mango season, and local orchards sell Hapus (Alphonso) mangoes. June to September is the monsoon, which is good for lush green scenery and fewer crowds but not for swimming or boat-based plans. Ganesh Chaturthi, weekends and long weekends are always crowded, so a weekday is calmer.
What to eat
The Konkan coast is known for fresh seafood, including fish thali, pomfret fry, prawns, kombdi vade (chicken with fried bread) and sol kadhi. For vegetarians, there are ukadiche modak in season, thalis with local vegetables and coconut-based curries, and kokum sherbet to beat the heat. Many homestays serve home-cooked meals. Tell us your food preference and we will suggest clean, reliable places.
Where to stay
Dapoli has many homestays, family-run lodges and small resorts, some near the beaches and others among orchards. They are simple and comfortable, and many offer home food. Stays fill up early on weekends, long weekends and festivals, so book ahead. In Option C, we also arrange a stay in Anjarle. Tell us your budget and group size, and we will suggest options.
Practical tips from the road
Start early; the highway and the Khed to Dapoli road take more time than people expect.
Keep some cash, since small shops and homestays may not accept cards.
Swim only in safe zones, avoid deep water and never swim after dark.
Book boats and water sports only with licensed operators.
Dress modestly for temples, and carry a light shawl or dupatta.
Carry a raincoat in the monsoon, and expect slow roads.
For elders and small children, we plan extra rest and short walks.
Which option should you choose?
For one night and a compact trip, choose the 2 day plan. For a calm plan with a full day of sightseeing, choose the 3 day plan. To add Suvarnadurg and Anjarle, choose the 4 day tour package. If you cannot decide, tell us your group size, ages and interests, and we will recommend what fits.
Book with Trip Leads
Share your travel date, pickup location in Mumbai, group size and preferred option. We will send a clear quotation with inclusions and exclusions, with no pressure and no hidden charges. Whether you travel with family, friends or a partner, Trip Leads will make sure your Dapoli trip is comfortable, well planned and relaxing.
