Know Before You Go
- Carry a valid government photo ID (Aadhaar/PAN/Passport/DL) for every traveller — hotels and some checkpoints ask for it.
- Pack according to Maharashtra's season — check the local weather a few days before departure and pack accordingly.
- Keep your booking voucher and driver/vehicle details handy (sent by Tripleads after confirmation).
- Please be ready at the pickup point 10–15 minutes before the scheduled time to keep the itinerary on track.
- Carry some cash for personal expenses, tips and anything not covered under Inclusions — card/UPI acceptance can be patchy in remote areas.
- Mobile network can be weak in ghats, valleys and remote stretches of the route — inform family of your rough schedule in advance.
- Carry sunscreen, sunglasses and light cottons — coastal humidity is high through most of the year.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. How far is Goa from Mumbai by road?
Goa is about 590 to 620 km from Mumbai. The drive takes roughly 10 to 12 hours without long stops, and more in the monsoon or on festival days.
Q2. Can we go to Goa from Mumbai in two days by cab?
We do not recommend it. A two day plan would mean more than 20 hours of driving for very little time in Goa. The 4 day option is the shortest plan we offer.
Q3. Which route is best for Mumbai to Goa?
The main route is the Konkan coast road (NH66) via Mahad, Chiplun, Ratnagiri and Kudal. It is scenic but has ghat sections and road works. We check the current condition and switch to the Pune, Satara and Kolhapur route if needed.
Q4. What is the best time to visit Goa?
November to February is the best, with dry weather, calm seas and everything open. October is a shoulder season with fewer crowds and lower prices, but some facilities may still be closed. Christmas and New Year are the most crowded and expensive weeks.
Q5. Is Dudhsagar Falls open?
Dudhsagar is a seasonal attraction and access rules and permits can change. It is usually closed or restricted in the monsoon. We check the current status before your trip. It is optional in the 6 day plan.
Q6. Can we use the cab inside Goa?
Yes. The cab stays with you for the whole trip, including sightseeing in Goa. Goa has its own taxi rules, and state entry or permit charges may apply for vehicles from outside, which we confirm and mention in the quotation.
Q7. Is Goa safe for families and women travellers?
Goa is a popular family and group destination. As anywhere, stay in well-lit and busy areas at night, keep your valuables safe, use only registered operators for water sports and cruises, and follow beach safety flags. We choose stays and plans that suit your group.

Mumbai To Goa Trip — Travel Guide
Mumbai to Goa Trip: A Practical Guide by Trip Leads
Mumbai to Goa is one of India’s best-known road trips. This guide explains the distance, the route, the best stops on the Konkan coast, what to see in Goa and how to choose between a four, five or six day trip.
How far is Goa from Mumbai?
Goa is about 590 to 620 km from Mumbai by road, depending on which part of Goa you are going to. The drive takes roughly 10 to 12 hours without long stops, and more in the monsoon, on weekends and on festival days. Road works and ghat sections on the Konkan highway can add time, so we plan the drive in two parts with a night on the way.
Which road do we take?
The main route is the Mumbai Goa highway (NH66) through Panvel, Mahad, Chiplun, Ratnagiri, Kudal and Pernem. It has ghat sections such as the stretch near Parshuram, and some parts have been under construction. We check the current condition with our drivers before your trip. An alternative route goes via Pune, Satara and Kolhapur, and we use it if the coast road is in poor shape.
Option A: A 4 day, 3 night trip
Day 1 is the drive to Ganpatipule. Day 2 is the drive to North Goa. Day 3 is a full day in Goa. Day 4 is the return.
Option B: A 5 day, 4 night trip
Day 1 is Ganpatipule. Day 2 is the drive to Tarkarli. Day 3 is Sindhudurg Fort and the drive to Goa. Day 4 is a full day in Goa. Day 5 is the return. This is the one I suggest for most groups.
Option C: A 6 day, 5 night trip
The same plan as Option B with a third night in Goa, so you get one day for Old Goa and Panaji and another for South Goa.
The places worth your time
Ganpatipule: A temple of Swayambhu Ganpati beside a clean beach on the Ratnagiri coast.
Ratnagiri (on the way): Known for Alphonso mangoes, Ratnadurg Fort, Thibaw Palace and Bhatye beach.
Tarkarli and Malvan: A beach town known for clear water, scuba and snorkelling, and Malvani food.
Sindhudurg Fort: A sea fort built by Shivaji Maharaj on an island off Malvan, reached by a short boat ride.
Sawantwadi (on the way): Known for lacquerware and wooden toys.
Calangute, Baga, Candolim and Anjuna: The best-known beaches of North Goa, with shacks, water sports and nightlife.
Fort Aguada and Chapora Fort: Old Portuguese forts with sea views.
Old Goa: UNESCO-listed churches such as the Basilica of Bom Jesus and the Se Cathedral.
Panaji and Fontainhas: The state capital, with its Latin quarter, old houses and a river cruise on the Mandovi.
South Goa (Colva, Palolem, Cabo de Rama): Quieter, wider beaches and a calmer atmosphere.
Dudhsagar Falls (optional): A large waterfall on the Goa and Karnataka border, normally visited by jeep. Check whether it is open.
Temples of Goa (optional): Mangeshi and Shanta Durga, for those who want a temple visit.
About water sports and the sea
Water sports, scuba and boat rides are run by local operators and are normally available only in the dry season. The sea can be rough and dangerous in and just after the monsoon, so always follow the lifeguards’ flags and instructions, never swim after drinking and never go far from the shore. We check what is open before your trip.
What to eat
Try fish thali, Malvani fish curry, kombdi vade and solkadhi on the coast, and Goan fish curry rice, prawn dishes, xacuti and bebinca in Goa. Vegetarian options are widely available. Drink responsibly and do not drive after drinking.
Shopping
Goa’s markets sell cashew nuts, spices, handicrafts, cotton clothing and souvenirs. Sawantwadi has lacquerware and wooden toys. Compare prices and quality before you buy.
Which car for which group?
Hatchback or sedan for 1 to 3 people, Ertiga for 4 to 6, Innova Crysta for comfort on the highway, Tempo Traveller for 8 to 17, and a mini bus for larger groups.
Where to stay
Ganpatipule, Tarkarli and Goa all have stays in every budget, from MTDC resorts and homestays to beach resorts. Rooms fill up fast and prices rise sharply in peak season and on long weekends, so book early.
Practical tips
Start early, carry water and a cap, keep your photo ID handy, keep valuables minimal, follow beach safety rules and do not drive after drinking.
