Know Before You Go

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. How far is Hyderabad from Mumbai by road?
Hyderabad is roughly 710 to 750 km from Mumbai. The drive takes about 11 to 13 hours with stops, depending on the route, traffic and weather.
Q2. Can we visit Hyderabad in two or three days from Mumbai?
We do not recommend it. The round trip is about 1,450 to 1,500 km, which is unsafe and tiring in under four days. The 4 day option is the shortest plan we offer, and the 5 or 6 day options are far more comfortable.
Q3. Which route is best from Mumbai to Hyderabad?
We take the Mumbai Pune Expressway and the Pune Solapur highway (NH65), continuing on NH65 via Zaheerabad and Sangareddy. We check the current road condition with our drivers before your trip.
Q4. What is the best time to visit Hyderabad?
October to February is the most comfortable. October is the start of the season, and the monsoon is just ending. Summers are very hot. Avoid Diwali, Christmas, New Year and long weekends if you want a quiet visit.
Q5. How much time do we need for Ramoji Film City?
Plan a full day, from morning until early evening. Entry charges, show timings and rides differ by ticket type, and are not included in the package. We help you check the current options when your trip is finalised.
Q6. Which is the best option for senior citizens?
Option B or Option C. Both break the drive at Solapur on the way in, so you reach Hyderabad rested. Option C is the most relaxed. Golconda involves many steps and Ramoji Film City involves a lot of walking, so please tell us if anyone cannot manage it.
Q7. Do we need a permit for the cab in Telangana?
Vehicles from outside the state usually need to pay a state entry or permit charge. We confirm the current rule and include the charges as per the quotation.

Mumbai To Hydrabad Trip — Travel Guide

Mumbai to Hyderabad Trip: A Practical Guide by Trip Leads

Hyderabad is one of India’s best city trips for heritage and food, and a road trip from Mumbai lets you see the Deccan on the way. This guide explains the distance, the route, the places worth your time and how to choose between a four, five or six day trip.

How far is Hyderabad from Mumbai?
Hyderabad is roughly 710 to 750 km from Mumbai by road, depending on your pickup point and the route. The drive takes about 11 to 13 hours with stops, and more on weekends, festival days and in the monsoon. Mumbai to Solapur is roughly 400 km, about seven to eight hours, and Solapur to Hyderabad is roughly 310 km, about five to six hours. We recommend breaking the drive at Solapur wherever possible.

Which road do we take?
We take the Mumbai Pune Expressway and the Pune Solapur highway (NH65), then continue on NH65 through Zaheerabad and Sangareddy to Hyderabad. Most of the route is a good four-lane road, but there are busy stretches around Pune, Solapur and the city outskirts. We check the current condition with our drivers before your trip.

Option A: A 4 day, 3 night trip
Day 1 is the long drive to Hyderabad. Day 2 covers Golconda, Charminar and the old city. Day 3 covers Birla Mandir and the Salar Jung Museum, then the drive to Solapur. Day 4 is the return.

Option B: A 5 day, 4 night trip
Day 1 is the drive to Solapur. Day 2 is the drive to Hyderabad and an evening by the lake. Day 3 is Ramoji Film City. Day 4 is the old city and the drive back to Solapur. Day 5 is the return. This is the one I suggest for most groups.

Option C: A 6 day, 5 night trip
Three nights in Hyderabad, with Ramoji Film City, the old city, Golconda and the Statue of Equality, and a night at Solapur on each side. It is the complete Hyderabad tour package from Mumbai.

The places worth your time

Charminar and Laad Bazaar: The 16th-century landmark with four minarets, and the old bazaar nearby, known for bangles, pearls and attar.
Mecca Masjid: One of India’s largest mosques, next to Charminar.
Chowmahalla Palace: The old Nizam palace complex, with courtyards, a durbar hall and a vintage car collection. Check opening days.
Salar Jung Museum: One of the largest one-man art collections in the world. Check the weekly closed day.
Golconda Fort: A hill fort on the western edge of the city, with its acoustic entrance and views from the top, and a sound and light show in the evening. Check show days and timings.
Hussain Sagar, Tank Bund and the Buddha statue: A lake in the middle of the city, with a promenade and a boat ride to the statue.
Birla Mandir: A white marble temple on a hill, with views over the city.
Qutb Shahi Tombs: A quiet complex of domed tombs near Golconda.
Ramoji Film City (Options B and C): A large film studio complex and theme park, which needs a full day.
Statue of Equality, Muchintal (Option C): A tall seated statue of the saint Ramanujacharya, in a temple complex on the outskirts. Check visiting hours and evening show.
Shilparamam and Lumbini Park (optional): A crafts village and a lakeside park, good for a relaxed evening.
Hitec City and Durgam Cheruvu (optional): A modern view of Hyderabad, with a lake and cable bridge.

About tickets and closed days
Many sights have weekly closed days, timed entry or special show tickets, and rules change. Ramoji Film City is large and needs a full day with an early start. Charminar and the old city are very crowded on weekends and holidays and in the evening. We confirm all rules when your trip is finalised.

What to eat
Try Hyderabadi dum biryani, mirchi ka salan, haleem (in season), kebabs, double ka meetha and qubani ka meetha. Have Irani chai with Osmania biscuits, and look for pesarattu and Andhra meals. Vegetarians can enjoy vegetable biryani and Telangana thalis.

Shopping
Laad Bazaar is known for bangles, pearls and attar. Hyderabad is also known for Pochampally and Gadwal sarees, Nirmal paintings, and sweets and dry fruits. Compare quality and prices before you buy, and buy pearls from reputed shops.

Best time to visit
October to February is the most comfortable. The monsoon is green but wet, and summers are very hot. Avoid Diwali, Christmas, New Year and long weekends if you want a quiet visit.

Which car for which group?
Hatchback or sedan for 1 to 3 people, Ertiga for 4 to 6, Innova Crysta for comfort on the highway, Tempo Traveller for 8 to 17, and a mini bus for larger groups.

Where to stay
Hyderabad has hotels at every budget. Staying near Banjara Hills, Abids or Secunderabad makes it easy to reach the old city, and staying near Hitec City suits business or IT-area visits. Solapur has simple hotels for the night halt. Rooms fill up on weekends and festival dates, so book early.

Practical tips
Start early, carry water and a cap, wear comfortable shoes, keep your photo ID handy, keep valuables minimal and carry some cash for the old city bazaars.
