Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. What is the distance from Mumbai to Trimbakeshwar and Nashik, and how long does it take?
Nashik is roughly 165 to 170 km from Mumbai, about three and a half to four hours by road. Trimbakeshwar is a further 28 to 30 km, so the total is roughly 180 to 190 km, and four to five hours with a break
Q2. Can we do a Mumbai to Nashik Trimbakeshwar trip in one day?
Yes. Leave early, take darshan at Trimbakeshwar in the morning, see the main Nashik sights in the afternoon and return at night. But on Mondays, weekends and festival days the queue can be long, so a weekday or a 2 day plan is more comfortable.
Q3. What is the best time to visit Trimbakeshwar?
The monsoon and early post-monsoon (July to October) are green and misty, and winter (November to February) is the most comfortable. Mondays in Shravan, Mahashivratri and weekends are the busiest.
Q4. What are the Trimbakeshwar temple timings and dress rules?
The temple generally opens early in the morning and stays open through the day, with puja and darshan timings set by the trust. Dress modestly, and note that specific dress rules apply for the sanctum during abhishek and puja. Please confirm the current rules with your Trip Leads coordinator before travel.
Q5. How do I book Narayan Nagbali or Kalsarpa puja at Trimbakeshwar?
These rituals are performed through the temple’s authorised priests and usually need advance booking. Tell us your requirement early, and we will guide you on reliable channels and plan the time needed. Please avoid unofficial agents outside the temple.
Q6. Is the Brahmagiri hill climb suitable for senior citizens?
It involves a flight of several hundred steps and takes a few hours in total, so it is better for fit visitors. Seniors can skip it and still complete the main darshan comfortably. We plan extra time for those who wish to try a part of the climb.
Q7. Is a cab better than a train or bus, and what does the package include?
A cab is more practical, because Trimbakeshwar needs a separate 30 km road journey from Nashik and the temples are spread apart. The price includes a private AC cab, driver, fuel, tolls, parking and sightseeing guidance. Stay, meals, puja items, ritual charges, entry tickets, guide fees and personal expenses depend on the option and your quotation.

Mumbai To Nashik Trimbakeshwar Trip — Travel Guide

Planning a Mumbai to Nashik Trimbakeshwar Trip? A Practical Guide for 1, 2 and 3 Days

If you have searched “Mumbai to Nashik Trimbakeshwar trip” and found plenty of temple facts but no clear plan, this guide is for you. This route is one of the most popular short pilgrimages from Mumbai, but the ghat road, the queue and the crowd days can catch first-time visitors off guard. As a travel planner at Trip Leads, I have written this guide to help you plan with confidence.

The route and the distance
Nashik is roughly 165 to 170 km from Mumbai, and the drive takes about three and a half to four hours. A common route goes through Thane, Shahapur, Kasara Ghat and Igatpuri, and then on to Nashik. Trimbakeshwar is about 28 to 30 km from Nashik city, around 45 minutes by road. The total distance from Mumbai to Trimbakeshwar is roughly 180 to 190 km, which takes four to five hours with a break. The Kasara Ghat section can be slow in rain or heavy traffic, so we plan some buffer.

Option A: A 1 day trip
It is possible, and many devotees do it. You leave around 5:00 AM, reach Trimbakeshwar by mid-morning, take darshan, have lunch, see the main Nashik sights and return at night. The challenge is the queue. On Mondays, weekends and festival days, darshan may take several hours. I suggest this plan on a weekday, and for fit travellers.

Option B: A 2 day, 1 night trip
This plan removes the rush. Day 1 is for Nashik: Kalaram Mandir, Sita Gumpha, Ramkund and Kapaleshwar, with an easy evening. Day 2 starts early at Trimbakeshwar, when the queue is shorter and the air is cool, and you return to Mumbai by evening. Senior citizens and families with children especially benefit.

Option C: A 3 day, 2 night trip
This plan adds Anjaneri hill on Day 2 and Saptashrungi Gad on Day 3. It turns a Jyotirlinga trip into a full yatra with Shiva, Rama, Hanuman and the Devi.

The places worth your time
Trimbakeshwar Temple: The Jyotirlinga with three small lingams within one depression. The temple is built in black stone and reached through a market lane.
Kushavarta Kund: A sacred tank near the temple, linked with the Godavari, where devotees perform rituals.
Brahmagiri Hill: The hill from which the Godavari is said to originate. A flight of several hundred steps leads up to the Gangadwar area, so the climb is for fit visitors with extra time.
Kalaram Mandir, Nashik: A black stone Rama temple in Panchavati, built in the 18th century.
Sita Gumpha: A small cave that is associated with Sita’s stay in the forest, reached through a narrow passage.
Ramkund: The main ghat on the Godavari, where devotees take a dip or perform rituals. It is central to the Kumbh Mela held in Nashik.
Kapaleshwar Mahadev Temple: A Shiva temple near the river, often noted for being without a Nandi.
Anjaneri Hill (Option C): A hill about 20 km from Trimbakeshwar, regarded in tradition as the birthplace of Lord Hanuman. The climb is steep, so go in the morning and at your own pace.
Saptashrungi Gad, Vani (Option C): A hilltop shrine of the Goddess, considered one of the Shakti peethas of Maharashtra. It is reached by steps, and a trolley service is usually available.

Darshan, rituals and queues at Trimbakeshwar
Trimbakeshwar is one of the busiest Jyotirlingas, especially on Mondays, during Shravan and on Mahashivratri. Queues move at different speeds, and special darshan options and puja timings are decided by the temple trust. For rituals like Narayan Nagbali and Kalsarpa Shanti, devotees usually need to book in advance and spend a few hours or more, so please let us know your requirement early, and we will guide you on reliable booking.

Best time to visit
The monsoon and early post-monsoon (July to October) are green and misty, though ghat roads need extra care. Winter (November to February) is the most comfortable for walking. Summer is hot, but the hills around Trimbakeshwar remain milder. For a calm darshan, a weekday morning is best.

What to eat
Simple vegetarian food is available in both towns, from hot misal and poha in the morning to full thalis at lunch and dinner. Nashik is also known for its misal, sabudana vada and grape-based products. Tell us your preference and we will suggest suitable places.

Where to stay
Nashik has a wide range of stays, from simple lodges to comfortable hotels, and it is the best base for this route. Trimbakeshwar has dharmashalas and basic lodges, but options are limited and fill early on Mondays and festivals. Tell us your budget and group size, and we will suggest options.

Practical tips from the road

Start early; the ghat and the queue take more time than people expect.
Wear easy-to-remove footwear and modest clothing.
Keep bags small, and leave valuables in the cab or hotel.
Book rituals only through authorised channels.
Carry a raincoat in the monsoon, as showers can arrive suddenly.
For elders, we plan extra rest and keep walking short.

Which option should you choose?
For a quick darshan on a free day, choose the 1 day trip. For a calm plan with a night in Nashik, choose the 2 day trip. To add Anjaneri and Saptashrungi Gad, choose the 3 day tour package. If you cannot decide, tell us your group size, ages and interests, and we will recommend what fits.

Book with Trip Leads
Share your travel date, pickup location in Mumbai, group size and preferred option. We will send a clear quotation with inclusions and exclusions, with no pressure and no hidden charges.
