We do not recommend it. A two day plan would mean more than 20 hours of driving for very little time at the beach. The 3 day option is the shortest plan we offer, and the 4 day option is far more comfortable.

November to February is the best, with dry weather, calm seas and water sports running. October is the start of the season, with fewer crowds but some facilities still opening. The monsoon sea is rough. Avoid Diwali, Christmas, New Year and long weekends if you want a quiet visit.

Boat services usually run in the dry season and stop in rough weather and in the monsoon. We check the current timings and the sea state before your trip. Boat and entry tickets are not included in the package.

How far is Tarkarli from Mumbai?
Malvan is roughly 480 to 520 km from Mumbai, and Tarkarli is about 7 km further, depending on your pickup point and route. The drive takes roughly ten to eleven hours with stops, and more in the monsoon, on weekends and on festival days. Road works and ghat sections on the Konkan highway can add time, so we start early.
Which road do we take?
The main route is the Mumbai Goa highway (NH66) through Panvel, Mahad, Chiplun, Sangameshwar, Rajapur and Kankavli, then a state road to Malvan. Parts of the highway have been under construction, so we check the current condition with our drivers before your trip. An alternative route goes via Pune, Satara and Kolhapur, and we use it if the coast road is in poor shape.
Option A: A 3 day, 2 night trip
Day 1 is the drive to Tarkarli. Day 2 is Sindhudurg Fort, the Rock Garden and the beach. Day 3 is the return.
Option B: A 4 day, 3 night trip

Boat services to Sindhudurg and water sports depend on the season, the weather and the sea state, and they are normally stopped in and just after the monsoon. The sea can be rough and the currents strong, so follow the lifeguards’ flags, swim only where it is allowed, keep children close and avoid the water after dark. Always use licensed boat and scuba operators, and wear the safety gear provided. We check what is open before your trip.
What to eat
Try fish thali, surmai and pomfret fry, prawns, kombdi vade and sol kadhi. Vegetarians can enjoy vegetarian thalis, kharvas and kokum sarbat. Look for Malvani khaja and kaju as gifts. Drink responsibly and do not drive after drinking.

Achra and Rameshwar Temple: A quiet village with an old Shiva temple among coconut groves.
Kunkeshwar Temple (Option C): A seaside Shiva temple near Devgad, often called the Kashi of the Konkan.

About the sea and boats
Boat services to Sindhudurg and water sports depend on the season, the weather and the sea state, and they are normally stopped in and just after the monsoon. The sea can be rough and the currents strong, so follow the lifeguards’ flags, swim only where it is allowed, keep children close and avoid the water after dark. Always use licensed boat and scuba operators, and wear the safety gear provided. We check what is open before your trip.
What to eat
Try fish thali, surmai and pomfret fry, prawns, kombdi vade and sol kadhi. Vegetarians can enjoy vegetarian thalis, kharvas and kokum sarbat. Look for Malvani khaja and kaju as gifts. Drink responsibly and do not drive after drinking.
Shopping
Malvan is known for Malvani masala, kokum, cashew nuts, Malvani khaja, mango products in season and coconut items. Compare quality and prices before you buy.
Best time to visit
November to February is the most comfortable. October is the start of the season, with fewer crowds but some facilities still opening. The monsoon is green but the sea is rough, and summers are hot. Avoid Diwali, Christmas, New Year and long weekends if you want a quiet visit.

Hatchback or sedan for 1 to 3 people, Ertiga for 4 to 6, Innova Crysta for comfort on the highway, Tempo Traveller for 8 to 17, and a mini bus for larger groups.
