Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. How far is Bhimashankar from Nashik by road?
Roughly 200 to 230 km. The drive takes about five to six hours, depending on the route and traffic, including the ghat road at the end.
Q2. Can we visit Bhimashankar in one day from Nashik?
Yes, but it is a very long day. If you leave by 4:30 am and start back by about 2:00 pm, you can take darshan. For a relaxed pace, choose the 2 day option.
Q3. Is the ghat road safe?
Yes in daylight and with an experienced driver, but it is narrow, steep and misty at times, especially after rain. We do not recommend driving it at night.
Q4. What are the temple timings and dress rules?
The temple generally opens in the early morning and stays open until late evening, but timings, aarti schedules and rules on phones, bags, footwear and dress can change on Mondays, Shravan and festival days. We confirm them when your trip is finalised.
Q5. Can we trek to Bhimashankar?
There are trekking routes from the base villages, such as the Ganpati Ghat and Shidi Ghat trails, but they are steep and are not part of this package. Trekking needs a local guide and good weather, so tell us in advance if you want a custom plan.
Q6. Can we add Shirdi, Grishneshwar or Trimbakeshwar?
Yes, as a longer custom plan. Tell us your dates and the places you want, and we will quote a route with an extra night.
Q7. Which is the best option for senior citizens?
Option B. It gives a night’s rest near the temple and a calm darshan, and it skips the steps at Lenyadri and Shivneri. Please tell us if anyone cannot manage steps or ghat roads, and we will choose the stops accordingly.

Nashik To Bhimashankar Trip — Travel Guide

Nashik to Bhimashankar Trip: A Practical Guide by Trip Leads

Bhimashankar is one of the most scenic Jyotirlinga trips from Nashik. This guide explains the distance, the route, the places worth your time and how to choose between a one, two or three day trip.

How far is Bhimashankar from Nashik?
Bhimashankar is roughly 200 to 230 km from Nashik, depending on the route. The drive takes about five to six hours. Narayangaon is about 150 km from Nashik, and the last 40 to 50 km, through Manchar and Ghodegaon, includes the ghat climb. Weekend and festival traffic can add a lot of time, so start early.

Which road do we take?
We usually take the Nashik, Sinnar, Sangamner, Narayangaon, Manchar and Bhimashankar road. We check the current road condition, tolls and ghat road status with our drivers before your trip.

Option A: A 1 day trip
A Nashik to Bhimashankar one day trip works if you leave by 4:30 am. Take darshan, have lunch and start back by about 2:00 pm. It is a very long day, and you will return in the evening.

Option B: A 2 day, 1 night trip
Day 1 covers the drive and a calm darshan, with a night near the temple. Day 2 covers the sanctuary area and the return. This is the one I suggest for families.

Option C: A 3 day, 2 night trip
Day 1 is Ozar and Lenyadri, with a night in Junnar. Day 2 is Shivneri Fort and Bhimashankar darshan, with a night near the temple. Day 3 is a morning at the sanctuary and the return.

The places worth your time

Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga Temple: The main Jyotirlinga shrine in the Sahyadri hills, near the source of the Bhima river.
Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary: The forest around the temple, home to the Shekru (Indian giant squirrel), birds and butterflies. Forest rules apply.
Hanuman Lake and Gupt Bhimashankar: Short walks near the temple, best in clear weather. Carry a torch.
Ozar Vighnahar (Option C): One of the eight Ashtavinayak temples, near Junnar.
Lenyadri Ganpati (Option C): An Ashtavinayak shrine inside a Buddhist cave on a hill near Junnar, reached by a long flight of steps.
Shivneri Fort (Option C): The birthplace fort of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, near Junnar, with steps and a calm hilltop.
Junnar: An old town with many rock-cut caves and a busy market.

About darshan at Bhimashankar
The temple is small, so queues can look long on Mondays, Shravan, Mahashivratri and weekends. Wear simple traditional clothing, and expect rules on phones, bags, footwear and leather items. We plan your darshan for the quietest slot possible. Please confirm the current timings, dress rules and queue system before the trip.

About the road
The ghat road near the top is narrow, with sharp turns, and it can be wet and misty. We do not recommend driving it at night. Senior citizens who get motion sickness should carry medicine and sit in front.

What to eat
Try a simple thali, pithla bhakri, misal pav and poha with tea. Food near the temple is simple and vegetarian, and Junnar and Manchar have more choices.

Best time to visit
October to February is the most comfortable. The monsoon is green but slippery, and summers are hot. Avoid Mondays, Shravan, Mahashivratri and long weekends if you want a calm darshan.

Which car for which group?
Hatchback or sedan for 1 to 3 people, Ertiga for 4 to 6, Innova Crysta for comfort on the highway, Tempo Traveller for 8 to 17, and a mini bus for larger groups. Large buses may face limits on the ghat road, and we confirm this when your trip is finalised.

Where to stay
Bhimashankar has a few simple lodges and dharamshalas near the temple, and Manchar, Ghodegaon and Junnar have more choices. Rooms near the temple fill up quickly on weekends, festival days and long weekends, so book early.

Practical tips
Start early, carry water and a light jacket, wear shoes with good grip, keep valuables minimal, follow the temple and forest rules and avoid the ghat road after dark.
