Know Before You Go
- Carry a valid government photo ID (Aadhaar/PAN/Passport/DL) for every traveller — hotels and some checkpoints ask for it.
- Pack according to Maharashtra's season — check the local weather a few days before departure and pack accordingly.
- Keep your booking voucher and driver/vehicle details handy (sent by Tripleads after confirmation).
- Please be ready at the pickup point 10–15 minutes before the scheduled time to keep the itinerary on track.
- Carry some cash for personal expenses, tips and anything not covered under Inclusions — card/UPI acceptance can be patchy in remote areas.
- Mobile network can be weak in ghats, valleys and remote stretches of the route — inform family of your rough schedule in advance.
- This is a pilgrimage route — dress modestly at temples, and expect queues during festival dates.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. How far is Mumbai from Nashik by road?
Roughly 165 to 190 km. The drive takes about four to five hours, depending on the route and traffic, including the Kasara ghat.
Q2. Can we visit Mumbai in one day from Nashik?
Yes, but it is a very long day. If you leave by 5:00 am and start back by about 5:00 pm, you can see two or three places. For a relaxed pace, or to add Elephanta, choose the 2 or 3 day option.
Q3. Can we visit Siddhivinayak on a Tuesday?
Yes, but the queue is very long. For a calmer darshan, choose another day. If you must go on a Tuesday, we plan an early arrival and a buffer.
Q4. When are the Elephanta Caves closed?
Normally on Mondays, and ferries run only in fair weather. We confirm the current closed days and ferry schedule, and plan the order around them
Q5. Can we add Shirdi, Trimbakeshwar or Lonavala?
Yes, as a longer custom plan. Tell us your dates and the places you want, and we will quote a route with an extra night.
Q6. Can we see Bollywood studios or Film City?
Studio visits need advance booking and are not part of this package. Tell us in advance if you want a custom plan.
Q7. Which is the best option for senior citizens?
Option B. It gives a night’s rest in Mumbai and skips the ferry and the long walks of Elephanta and Kanheri. Please tell us if anyone cannot manage steps or long queues, and we will choose the stops accordingly.

Nashik To Mumbai Trip — Travel Guide
Nashik to Mumbai Trip: A Practical Guide by Trip Leads
Mumbai is one of the easiest and most popular short trips from Nashik. This guide explains the distance, the route, the places worth your time and how to choose between a one, two or three day trip.
How far is Mumbai from Nashik?
Mumbai is roughly 165 to 190 km from Nashik, depending on the route and your destination in the city. The drive takes about four to five hours. Igatpuri is about 45 km from Nashik, and the Kasara ghat lies just after it. Weekend, festival and rush hour traffic near Thane and Mumbai can add a lot of time, so start early.
Which road do we take?
We usually take the Nashik, Igatpuri, Kasara, Shahapur and Thane road, or the Samruddhi Expressway stretch where it saves time. We check the current road condition, tolls and entry rules with our drivers before your trip.
Option A: A 1 day trip
A Nashik to Mumbai one day trip works if you leave by 5:00 am. See Siddhivinayak or Mahalaxmi, the Gateway of India and Marine Drive, and start back by about 5:00 pm. You will return late in the evening.
Option B: A 2 day, 1 night trip
Day 1 covers the drive, Siddhivinayak, Mahalaxmi and Marine Drive, with a night in Mumbai. Day 2 covers the Gateway of India, Colaba, CSMT and the return. This is the one I suggest for families.
Option C: A 3 day, 2 night trip
Day 1 is the drive, darshan and Marine Drive. Day 2 is Elephanta Caves and south Mumbai heritage. Day 3 is Kanheri Caves or Juhu and Bandra, and the return.
The places worth your time
Siddhivinayak Temple, Prabhadevi: Mumbai’s best known Ganesh temple. Very crowded on Tuesdays and festival days.
Mahalaxmi Temple and Haji Ali Dargah: Two well known shrines close to each other on the sea side. The Haji Ali walkway is covered by the tide at high water.
Gateway of India and Colaba: The colonial arch on the harbour, with the Taj Mahal Palace hotel opposite and the Colaba Causeway market nearby.
Marine Drive and Chowpatty: The curved sea promenade known as the Queen’s Necklace, best at sunset.
CSMT and south Mumbai heritage: The Victorian Gothic railway station, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with the nearby Fort area buildings, best seen on a short walk.
Elephanta Caves (Option C): A UNESCO World Heritage Site of rock-cut temples on an island, reached by ferry from the Gateway of India. Normally closed on Mondays.
Kanheri Caves (Option C): Ancient Buddhist caves inside Sanjay Gandhi National Park, in Borivali. Check the park and cave rules before the trip.
Juhu, Bandra and Bandra-Worli Sea Link (Option C): The Juhu beach, the Bandra Bandstand promenade, Mount Mary church and the cable stayed sea link.
Shopping: Colaba Causeway, Crawford Market, Linking Road and Fashion Street.
About darshan in Mumbai
The Siddhivinayak and Mahalaxmi temples have long queues on Tuesdays, Fridays, festival days and weekends. Wear simple traditional clothing, and expect rules on phones, bags, footwear and leather items. We plan your darshan for the quietest slot possible, and online booking rules, if any, should be confirmed before the trip.
About traffic in Mumbai
Weekday rush hours, roughly 8:30 to 11:00 am and 5:00 to 8:30 pm, can double travel times. We plan the order of stops to avoid the worst of it, but timings can still shift.
What to eat
Try vada pav, misal pav, pav bhaji, bhel puri, Bombay sandwich and bun maska with chai. Pick busy, clean places, and carry water.
Best time to visit
November to February is the most comfortable. The monsoon is wet with heavy traffic, and summers are hot and humid. Avoid Ganesh Chaturthi week, Navratri and Diwali weekends and long weekends for an easier visit.
Which car for which group?
Hatchback or sedan for 1 to 3 people, Ertiga for 4 to 6, Innova Crysta for comfort on the highway, Tempo Traveller for 8 to 17, and a mini bus for larger groups. Large vehicles can face parking and entry limits in south Mumbai, and we confirm this when your trip is finalised.
Where to stay
Mumbai has hotels at every budget, with the best choices in Colaba, Fort, Marine Lines, Dadar and Juhu. Rooms are expensive and fill up quickly on weekends, festival days and long weekends, so book early. Navi Mumbai and Thane are cheaper options with a longer drive into the city.
Practical tips
Start early, carry water and a cap, wear comfortable shoes, keep valuables close in crowded places, follow the temple rules and avoid peak traffic hours.
