Know Before You Go
- Carry a valid government photo ID (Aadhaar/PAN/Passport/DL) for every traveller — hotels and some checkpoints ask for it.
- Pack according to Maharashtra's season — check the local weather a few days before departure and pack accordingly.
- Keep your booking voucher and driver/vehicle details handy (sent by Tripleads after confirmation).
- Please be ready at the pickup point 10–15 minutes before the scheduled time to keep the itinerary on track.
- Carry some cash for personal expenses, tips and anything not covered under Inclusions — card/UPI acceptance can be patchy in remote areas.
- Mobile network can be weak in ghats, valleys and remote stretches of the route — inform family of your rough schedule in advance.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. What are the best places to visit in Pune in one day?
For a one day Pune sightseeing plan, Shaniwar Wada, Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Temple, the Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum and the Aga Khan Palace fit comfortably into a day. A garden visit in the evening makes a relaxed end. For Sinhagad and Khadakwasla, we suggest the 2 day plan.
Q2. How many days are enough for Pune sightseeing?
Two days are enough to see both the heritage sites in Pune and the Sinhagad and Khadakwasla side. One day covers the main city sights, while a 3 day plan adds Mulshi Dam and suits families who want a slower holiday.
Q3. What are the Shaniwar Wada timings and entry rules in Pune?
Shaniwar Wada generally opens in the morning and closes in the evening, with a ticket for entry. Timings and ticket rules can change, so we confirm the current details when we finalise your trip. Going early keeps you ahead of the heat and the crowd.
Q4. Is the Aga Khan Palace in Pune worth visiting?
Yes, especially if you are interested in history. The palace is linked with Mahatma Gandhi and Kasturba Gandhi, and it has a memorial, a small museum and a calm garden. It usually takes about 1 to 1.5 hours.
Q5. What is the best time to visit Sinhagad Fort from Pune?
October to February is comfortable, and early morning is best. Monsoon makes Sinhagad green and misty, but the road and steps can be slippery and weekends are very crowded. We recommend a weekday morning for a calm visit.
Q6. Can I see Pune sightseeing places by cab in one day without a guide?
Yes. A private cab makes it easy to cover the old city and the Aga Khan Palace in one day, since the driver knows the parking and drop points. A guide is optional and charged separately, but we can arrange one on request.
Q7. What is included in the Pune sightseeing tour package price?
It includes a private AC cab for the chosen duration, driver, fuel, tolls and parking as per the plan, and sightseeing guidance. Hotel stay and meals depend on the option. Monument tickets, guide charges, camera fees, puja items and personal expenses are extra.

Pune Sightseeing Trip — Travel Guide
Planning a Pune Sightseeing Trip? A Practical Guide for 1 Day, 2 Days and 3 Days
If you have ever searched “places to visit in Pune” and ended up with a long list that does not tell you what is actually worth your time, this guide is for you. Pune is a large city with a very old core. It has Peshwa-era wadas, Maratha forts, colonial buildings, temples, gardens, lakes and hills, all within a short drive of each other. But the city is also busy, and a good plan makes the difference between a tiring day and a memorable one. As a travel planner at Trip Leads, I have written this guide to help you plan with confidence.
A short introduction to Pune’s history
Pune rose to importance in the 17th century, when Shivaji Maharaj spent his early years at Lal Mahal with his mother Jijabai. Under the Peshwas in the 18th century, the city became the political centre of the Maratha Empire, and Shaniwar Wada was built in 1732 as the Peshwa seat. In the colonial era, the city grew as an educational and cultural centre, and it remains one today. Understanding even this much makes every stop more meaningful.
The route and the distances
Most city sights are within 10 to 15 km of each other, but traffic matters more than distance. The old city around Shaniwar Wada, Dagdusheth Ganpati, Tulshibaug and the Kelkar Museum is compact and best covered together in the morning. The Aga Khan Palace is on the Nagar Road side, and Sinhagad Fort is about 30 km from the city centre, a drive of about an hour. Khadakwasla Dam is on the way to Sinhagad. Mulshi Dam is roughly 40 to 50 km from Pune, about 1.5 hours by road, and a good day trip for the third day.
Option A: A 1 day Pune sightseeing trip
A Pune sightseeing 1 day plan works best when it stays in the city. Start with Shaniwar Wada in the morning when it is quiet and cool, then walk or drive to Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati and the Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum. Have lunch, and spend the afternoon at the Aga Khan Palace. End the day with a calm garden visit. If you want to include Sinhagad, I suggest the 2 day plan, since the fort needs time and energy.
Option B: A 2 day, 1 night trip
The first day covers the heritage side of Pune in a relaxed order, and you can add Lal Mahal and the Pataleshwar Cave Temple if time allows. The second day goes outside: Sinhagad Fort in the morning, Khadakwasla Dam for the backwaters and snacks, and the Pune-Okayama Friendship Garden for an easy evening. You also get a full night in Pune to rest.
Option C: A 3 day, 2 night trip
The third day is for Mulshi Dam, with a stop at the Tamhini Ghat viewpoints if the weather is clear. It is a slow, scenic day with no monuments and no queues. It makes the whole trip feel like a holiday, not just a tour.
The places worth your time
Shaniwar Wada: The ruined fortress-palace of the Peshwas, with its massive gates, courtyards and fountain remains. Go early to avoid the crowd and the heat.
Lal Mahal: A reconstructed palace linked with the childhood of Shivaji Maharaj and Jijabai. A short, easy stop near Shaniwar Wada.
Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Temple: One of the most famous Ganesh temples in India, built by a sweet maker in 1893, and the face of Pune’s Ganeshotsav. Queues are shorter on weekday mornings.
Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum: A private museum with a large and unusual collection of everyday objects, musical instruments, lamps, textiles and craft items from across India.
Aga Khan Palace: A graceful palace built in 1892, where Mahatma Gandhi, Kasturba Gandhi and others were detained during the freedom struggle. It now houses a Gandhi memorial and a peaceful garden.
Pataleshwar Cave Temple: An ancient rock-cut Shiva temple in the middle of the city, small and calm, and a good contrast to the busy roads outside.
Parvati Hill: A hilltop group of temples reached by a climb of around a hundred steps, with a wide view of the city. Best at sunrise or evening.
Pune-Okayama Friendship Garden: A Japanese-style garden with walkways and water features, named for Pune’s sister city. A relaxed place for families.
Sinhagad Fort: A hill fort in the Sahyadri, famous for Tanaji Malusare’s battle in 1670. The views, the cool air and the local snacks at the top make it a popular half-day trip. You can drive most of the way up and walk the rest.
Khadakwasla Dam: A large reservoir on the Mutha river with a pleasant promenade, backwaters and roadside stalls. Good for a tea break and photos.
Mulshi Dam (Option C): A quiet reservoir in the green hills west of Pune, popular for slow drives, photography and fresh air.
Best time to visit Pune
October to February is the most comfortable. Monsoon is lovely at Sinhagad, Khadakwasla and Mulshi, but conditions can be misty and slippery, so plan carefully. Summer is hot, so keep the heritage walks in the morning. Ganeshotsav and big festival weekends bring crowds and traffic closures to the old city, so check the situation before you book.
What to eat
Pune has a food culture of its own. Try misal pav, sabudana khichdi, bhakarwadi, kothimbir vadi, Maharashtrian thalis, and hot jalebi or shrikhand. The old city has well-known sweet shops and snack counters, and Sinhagad is famous for its hot pithla-bhakri, kanda bhaji and curd served at the top. Cafes along the road to Khadakwasla and Sinhagad are good for a relaxed break.
Where to stay
Pune has hotels in every range, from budget lodges near the railway station to business hotels in Koregaon Park, Shivajinagar and Deccan. For temple and wada sightseeing, a central location saves time. Tell us your budget and group size, and we will suggest suitable options.
Practical tips from the road
Start early, since traffic and heat both build up later. Wear comfortable shoes for the wadas and the fort. Carry water, a cap and a light jacket. Keep valuables minimal in crowded lanes and at the fort. Use only official counters for tickets, and ask us about closing days before you plan. If anyone in your group has difficulty with steps, tell us in advance, and we will adjust the plan.
Which option should you choose?
For a quick, complete city tour, choose the 1 day trip. For both heritage and nature, choose the 2 day trip. For a relaxed holiday with Mulshi, choose the 3 day tour package. If you cannot decide, tell us your group size, ages and interests, and we will recommend what fits best.
