- Pack according to Maharashtra's season — check the local weather a few days before departure and pack accordingly.
- Keep your booking voucher and driver/vehicle details handy (sent by Tripleads after confirmation).
- Please be ready at the pickup point 10–15 minutes before the scheduled time to keep the itinerary on track.

- This is a pilgrimage route — dress modestly at temples, and expect queues during festival dates.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. How far is Bhimashankar from Pune and how long does the drive take?
Bhimashankar is roughly 110 to 125 km from Pune, and the drive normally takes about 3 to 3.5 hours, depending on route, traffic and weather. The last ghat stretch can be slow in monsoon and mist.
Q2. Is a one day trip from Pune to Bhimashankar possible? Yes.
A one day trip works if you leave by 5:30 AM and visit on a weekday. On Mondays, in Shravan and on festival days, queues can be long, so a 2 day plan is more comfortable, especially for elders.
Q3. What is the best time to visit Bhimashankar?
October to February is the most comfortable period. Monsoon is green and misty but roads and trails are slippery. Shravan and Mahashivratri are very crowded, so expect long queues if you travel then.
Q4. Do I need to climb steps to reach the temple?
Yes. The temple is reached by a long flight of steps, roughly 200 to 250, from the car parking area. Wear comfortable footwear and go slowly with children and elders. Let us know in advance if someone has mobility issues.
Q5. Can I see the Indian giant squirrel (Shekru) at Bhimashankar?
Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary is home to the Indian giant squirrel, but sightings depend on luck, season and patience. Move quietly, avoid feeding animals and follow forest rules.
Q6. Is the Nagphani trek included?
Nagphani is an optional trek for fit travellers, in good weather and with a local guide. It is not part of the standard plan, and we do not recommend it during heavy rain. Please tell us in advance if you wish to include it.
Q7. What is included in the package price?
The price includes a private AC cab for the chosen duration, driver, fuel, tolls and parking as per the plan, and sightseeing as per the itinerary. Hotel or lodge stay and meals depend on the option you choose. Puja items, special darshan passes, entry tickets and personal expenses are extra.

Pune To Bhimashankar Trip — Travel Guide
Planning a Pune to Bhimashankar Trip? A Practical Guide for 1, 2 and 3 Days
Bhimashankar is one of the most important pilgrimage centres in Maharashtra, and one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. It also happens to be a beautiful forest destination, the place where the Bhima river is said to begin its journey. Every year, lakhs of devotees visit the temple, and many return again and again. But planning a trip here needs some care. The queue can be long, the road is hilly, and the season changes everything. As a travel planner at Trip Leads, I have written this guide to help you plan with confidence.
The route and the distance
Bhimashankar lies in the Khed taluka of Pune district, about 110 to 125 km from Pune, and the drive normally takes around three to three and a half hours. A common route goes from Pune towards Rajgurunagar, then to Manchar and Ghodegaon, before climbing the final ghat section to the temple. The last part of the road is winding and can be misty, especially in monsoon, so careful driving and daylight travel are important. Leaving by 5:30 to 6:00 AM is the best way to reach before the crowd builds up.
Option A: A 1 day trip from Pune
A Pune to Bhimashankar one day trip works well for devotees with limited time. You reach by mid-morning, take darshan, visit the nearby viewpoints and the Hanuman Lake, have lunch and head back in the afternoon. In peak season or on Mondays, the queue can be long, and the schedule may run late. If you travel with elders or small children, I suggest going on a weekday or choosing the 2 day plan.
Option B: A 2 day, 1 night trip
A 2 day trip from Pune to Bhimashankar is much more relaxed. You arrive by lunchtime, rest, visit a viewpoint or the lake in the evening, and then take darshan early the next morning when the queue is usually shorter and the atmosphere is calm. You can also visit Gupt Bhimashankar and Sakshi Vinayak without hurry before heading home.
Option C: A 3 day, 2 night trip
A three-day plan turns this into a rewarding circuit. You spend the first night near Bhimashankar and the second in Junnar. In Junnar, you visit Shivneri Fort, where Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was born, the Lenyadri cave temple, an Ashtavinayak shrine carved into a hillside, and the Ozar Vighneshwar Temple, another Ashtavinayak. It is an excellent plan for pilgrims, history lovers and families with older members.
The places worth your time
Bhimashankar Temple: The main Jyotirlinga shrine in a simple, ancient setting among trees. Visit early in the day for a peaceful darshan.
Gupt Bhimashankar: A smaller, hidden shrine believed to be the source of the Bhima river. A short walk from the main temple, with a calm forest feel.
Hanuman Lake: A small lake near the temple area, with a temple of Lord Hanuman and shaded surroundings. Good for a short rest.
Sakshi Vinayak Temple: A small Ganesh temple on the way to the main shrine, believed to be a witness to your darshan.
Kamalaja Mata Temple: A temple associated with Goddess Parvati, set near the main complex.
Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary: A protected forest in the Sahyadri, rich in birds, butterflies, plants and animals, including the Indian giant squirrel. Spotting is a matter of luck and patience, so go quietly.
Nagphani Point: A rock formation shaped like a cobra's hood, reached by a forest trek. It is a few hours of walking, suitable only for fit travellers, in good weather, and with a local guide.
Dimbhe Dam: A large reservoir on the way, with pleasant scenery. Good for a short stop when the water level is high.
Shivneri Fort (Junnar): The birthplace of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. A well-preserved fort with several gates and a climb up stone steps.
Lenyadri Caves (Junnar): A group of rock-cut Buddhist caves with a cave temple of Girijatmaj Ganpati, one of the Ashtavinayak. Reached by a long flight of about 300 steps.
Ozar Vighneshwar Temple (Junnar area): One of the Ashtavinayak temples on the banks of the Kukadi river. A calm and peaceful stop.
Best time to visit Bhimashankar
October to February is the most comfortable period, with cool weather and clear views. Monsoon (June to September) brings waterfalls and thick mist, but the paths are slippery and treks are risky. The Shravan month and festival days like Mahashivratri bring very large crowds, so expect long queues and plan accordingly. Summer is warm, though mornings remain pleasant. If you want a calm darshan, choose a weekday outside peak season.
What to eat
Food near the temple is simple and vegetarian. Look for hot poha, misal pav, bhajiyas with chai, and local thalis at small restaurants. In monsoon, hot corn and tea feel wonderful in the mist. Many pilgrims carry light snacks and water, since queues can be long. In Junnar, you will find more choices.
Where to stay
Bhimashankar has simple lodges and dharmashalas, along with a few comfortable rooms for families. Rooms near the temple fill up quickly during Shravan and festival weekends, so book early. In Junnar, you can find comfortable hotels. Tell us your budget and group size, and we suggest suitable options.
Practical tips from the road
Start early, because queues grow later in the day. Wear shoes that are comfortable to climb in and easy to remove. Dress modestly for the temple. Carry a raincoat in monsoon and a light jacket in winter. Keep some cash for puja items and parking. Avoid plastic, and do not litter, since this is a protected forest. Avoid solo or unguided treks, and stay on marked paths.
Which option should you choose?
If you want a quick darshan, choose the 1 day trip. If you want a calm overnight stay and a peaceful morning darshan, choose the 2 day trip. If you want to include Junnar, Shivneri, Lenyadri and Ozar, choose the 3 day tour package. If you cannot decide, tell us your group size, ages and interests, and we will recommend what fits.
