- Keep your booking voucher and driver/vehicle details handy (sent by Tripleads after confirmation).
- Please be ready at the pickup point 10–15 minutes before the scheduled time to keep the itinerary on track.
- Carry some cash for personal expenses, tips and anything not covered under Inclusions — card/UPI acceptance can be patchy in remote areas.

- This is a pilgrimage route — dress modestly at temples, and expect queues during festival dates.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. What is the distance from Pune to Dehu and Alandi, and how long does it take?
Dehu is about 30 km and Alandi about 25 km from Pune. Each drive normally takes 60 to 90 minutes, depending on traffic. Dehu and Alandi are about 25 to 30 km apart.
Q2. Can Dehu and Alandi be covered together in one day from Pune?
Yes. A Pune to Dehu Alandi 1 day trip is a popular plan. Leave around 8:00 AM, visit Dehu first and reach Alandi in the afternoon. A weekday is far more comfortable, since weekends and Ekadashi bring long queues.
Q3. Who was Sant Tukaram Maharaj of Dehu, and why is Dehu famous?
Sant Tukaram Maharaj was a 17th-century Warkari saint-poet whose abhangs on honesty, humility and devotion are loved across Maharashtra. Dehu is his birthplace and the place linked to his life and his departure to Vaikuntha, so it is one of the most important pilgrimage centres for Warkaris.
Q4. Why is Alandi famous, and what is special about Sant Dnyaneshwar’s Samadhi?
Alandi is the place where Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj took Sanjeevan Samadhi. He wrote the Dnyaneshwari, a Marathi commentary on the Bhagavad Gita. Devotees also revere the Ajanvruksh, the sacred tree beside the samadhi.
Q5. When do the Dehu and Alandi palkhis leave for the Pandharpur Wari?
The palkhis of Sant Tukaram Maharaj and Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj leave Dehu and Alandi in the month of Jyeshtha, a few weeks before Ashadhi Ekadashi (usually June or July). Dates change every year, so please check the official schedule if you plan to see the Wari.
Q6. What is the best time to visit Dehu and Alandi from Pune?
October to February is the most comfortable. Monsoon is green and scenic, but ghats may be restricted when the river runs high. Kartiki Ekadashi, Ashadhi Ekadashi and Wari days are extremely crowded, so choose a weekday for a quiet darshan.
Q7. Is the Pune to Dehu Alandi trip suitable for senior citizens and children?
Yes. The distances are short and most of the temple areas involve little walking. We suggest a weekday visit and the 2 day option for elders, so that Alandi’s darshan is calm and unhurried. Tell us in advance if anyone needs extra rest or has difficulty with steps, such as at Bhandara Dongar.

Pune To Dehu Alandi Trip — Travel Guide
Planning a Pune to Dehu Alandi Trip? A Practical Guide for 1 Day, 2 Days and 3 Days
If you live in or near Pune and have never done the Dehu and Alandi darshan together, this guide is for you. These two towns hold a very special place in Maharashtra’s spiritual life. Dehu is the birthplace and karmabhoomi of Sant Tukaram Maharaj, and Alandi is the resting place of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj. Their words are still sung in homes and temples across the state, and every year lakhs of Warkaris walk to Pandharpur in their name. As a travel planner at Trip Leads, I have written this guide to help you plan the trip with confidence, whether you want a quick darshan or a slow pilgrimage.
Who were the two saints?
Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj lived in the 13th century. He wrote the Dnyaneshwari, a Marathi commentary on the Bhagavad Gita, in a language ordinary people could understand. According to tradition, he took Sanjeevan Samadhi in Alandi at a very young age. Sant Tukaram Maharaj lived in the 17th century in Dehu. He was a village trader, who after hardship turned wholly to devotion and composed abhangs in simple, direct Marathi about honesty, humility and bhakti. According to tradition, he left for Vaikuntha from Dehu. Understanding even this much makes your visit far more meaningful.
The route and the distances
Dehu is about 30 km from Pune, and Alandi is about 25 km. The drive to either takes about 60 to 90 minutes, depending on traffic through Pimpri Chinchwad. Dehu and Alandi are about 25 to 30 km apart, roughly an hour. Most travellers cover Dehu first, as it lies on the Pune–Mumbai side, and then continue to Alandi. Leaving by 8:00 AM keeps you ahead of the afternoon traffic.
Option A: A 1 day trip from Pune
A Pune to Dehu Alandi 1 day trip is a comfortable plan. You take darshan at Dehu in the morning, visit Bhandara Dongar if time and weather allow, have lunch, and reach Alandi in the afternoon for the Samadhi Mandir. You return by early evening. For the most peaceful experience, choose a weekday. Weekends, Ekadashi and festival days bring long queues, and the day may stretch.
Option B: A 2 day, 1 night trip
If you want to feel the atmosphere of a pilgrimage town, stay overnight at Alandi. You cover Dehu on Day 1, reach Alandi by evening, and attend the evening bhajans and Aarti. The next morning, Alandi is quiet, the ghat is peaceful and the queue is usually shorter. You then return to Pune with plenty of time. This plan is best for senior citizens and families with children.
Option C: A 3 day, 2 night tour package
The 3 day plan turns the journey into the Wari circuit. After Dehu and Alandi, you travel via Pune to Jejuri, the home of Lord Khandoba, and then to Pandharpur, the main destination of the Wari, for the darshan of Lord Vitthal and Rukmini. You stay one night at Alandi and one at Pandharpur, and return to Pune on Day 3. It is a long but deeply satisfying plan.
The places worth your time
Tukaram Maharaj Gatha Mandir, Dehu: A large temple complex on the banks of the Indrayani, dedicated to Sant Tukaram. It is the heart of any Dehu visit.
Vaikunthasthan Mandir, Dehu: The sacred spot where, according to tradition, Tukaram Maharaj left for Vaikuntha. A quiet, emotional place.
Shila Mandir, Dehu: Associated with the stone on which Tukaram is said to have sat in meditation for several days.
Bhandara Dongar: A peaceful hill near Dehu where Tukaram Maharaj is said to have spent time in meditation and composition. It offers fresh air, a calm atmosphere and wide views, and is best visited in the morning.
Vitthal-Rukmini Temple, Dehu: A small, old shrine, important to the Warkari tradition.
Sanjeevan Samadhi Mandir, Alandi: The main shrine of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj, on the bank of the Indrayani. This is the focus of any Alandi visit.
Ajanvruksh, Alandi: The sacred tree beside the samadhi, deeply revered by devotees.
Indrayani Ghat, Alandi: A peaceful ghat for a short walk, a quiet sit and an evening view.
Siddheshwar Temple, Alandi: An old Shiva temple in the temple complex area, connected with the saint’s life.
Jejuri, Option C: The hilltop town of Lord Khandoba, known for its golden Bhandara (turmeric) offering and a climb of steps to the main shrine.
Pandharpur, Option C: The Vitthal-Rukmini Temple on the banks of the Chandrabhaga river, the final destination of the Wari.
The Wari tradition
You cannot understand Dehu and Alandi without the Wari. Every year, in the month of Jyeshtha, the palkhis (palanquins) of Sant Tukaram Maharaj and Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj leave from Dehu and Alandi, pass through Pune, and walk with lakhs of Warkaris to Pandharpur, reaching it for Ashadhi Ekadashi in June or July. Visiting these towns during the Wari is an unforgettable experience, but it also means heavy traffic, crowded lanes and restricted roads. If you want to see the Wari, plan well in advance. If you want a calm darshan, choose another time.
Best time to visit Dehu and Alandi
October to February is the most comfortable, with cool air and pleasant light for the river. Monsoon makes the hills around Dehu green, but ghats may be restricted when the river is high. Summer afternoons are hot, so plan temple visits in the morning. Kartiki Ekadashi, Ashadhi Ekadashi, Wari days and festival weekends are extremely crowded. A weekday morning always gives the calmest darshan.
What to eat
Food near the temples is simple, hygienic and vegetarian. Look for hot poha, sabudana khichdi, misal pav, bhajiyas with chai, and a Maharashtrian thali for lunch. Many pilgrims carry light snacks and water, since queues can be long. Along the highway, there are also good family restaurants for a comfortable meal.
Where to stay
Alandi has simple lodges and dharmashalas, along with a few comfortable rooms for families. Rooms fill up very fast during Ekadashi and yatra days, so book early. Tell us your budget and group size, and we will suggest suitable options. For Option C, Pandharpur has stays in every range, and rooms near the temple are in demand during the Wari.
Practical tips from the road
Start by 8:00 AM, since traffic through Pimpri Chinchwad and the temple lanes builds up later. Wear modest clothes and easy-to-remove footwear. Avoid carrying plastic, and do not litter in the river area. Keep cash for puja items and parking, and carry personal medicines for elders. Avoid weekends and Ekadashi if you want a quiet visit.
Which option should you choose?
For a quick yet complete darshan, choose the 1 day trip. For a calm overnight stay and a peaceful morning at Alandi, choose the 2 day trip. For the Wari circuit with Jejuri and Pandharpur, choose the 3 day tour package. If you cannot decide, tell us your group size, ages and interests, and we will recommend what fits best.
