Tamhini Ghat is about 55 to 60 km from Pune. The drive takes roughly one and a half to two hours via Paud and Mulshi, depending on traffic and weather.
Q2. Can we visit Tamhini Ghat in one day from Pune?
Yes. If you leave by 7:00 am and start back by 4:00 pm, you can cover Mulshi Lake, the Tamhini viewpoints and the roadside waterfalls. For Devkund, choose the 2 day option.
Q3. What is the best time to visit Tamhini Ghat?
The monsoon, roughly June to September, is the peak season for waterfalls and mist. After the monsoon, from October, the hills stay green and the weather is pleasant, though waterfalls have less water. Summers are dry. Avoid crowded monsoon weekends if possible.
Q4. Is Tamhini Ghat safe in the monsoon?
The ghat is generally fine for careful drivers, but it has sharp curves, low visibility and slippery spots in heavy rain. Waterfalls and pools can be dangerous, so never enter fast-moving water or go past barriers. We check the weather and local restrictions before your trip and may change the plan for safety.
Q5. Is Devkund Waterfall open to visitors?
Devkund is a popular trek and waterfall near Bhira, but access, fees and safety rules can change, especially in the monsoon. We check the current status before your trip. Entry and trek fees are not included in the package.
Q6. What are the best places to visit near Tamhini Ghat?
Mulshi Lake and Dam, the Tamhini viewpoints, Devkund Waterfall and Pawna Lake are the main ones. Lonavala is a good addition on the way back.
Q7. What can we eat near Tamhini Ghat?
Expect misal pav, vada pav, corn on the cob, hot bhaji, simple thalis and home-style meals at homestays. Food on the ghat is basic, so we plan lunch stops in advance.

Pune To Tamhini Ghat Trip — Travel Guide

Pune to Tamhini Ghat Trip: A Practical Guide by Trip Leads

Tamhini Ghat is one of the closest and greenest nature trips from Pune, and it is easy to combine with Mulshi Lake, Devkund and Pawna Lake. This guide explains the distance, the route, the best season and how to choose between a one, two or three day trip.

How far is Tamhini Ghat from Pune?
Tamhini Ghat is about 55 to 60 km from Pune. The drive takes roughly one and a half to two hours via Paud and Mulshi, and longer on weekends and in heavy rain because of traffic and slow ghat sections. Devkund waterfall is about 100 to 110 km from Pune, roughly three to three and a half hours. Start early.

When is the best time for Tamhini Ghat?
The monsoon, roughly June to September, is the peak season, with full waterfalls and a misty landscape. After the monsoon, from October onwards, the hills stay green, the weather is pleasant and the views are clearer, though waterfalls carry less water. Summers are dry. Please check current conditions before you plan.

Option A: A 1 day trip
A Pune to Tamhini Ghat one day trip works if you leave by 7:00 am. Stop at Mulshi Lake, the Tamhini viewpoints and waterfalls, have lunch and start back by 4:00 pm. You will be back in Pune in the evening.

Option B: A 2 day, 1 night trip
Day 1 covers Mulshi Lake and Tamhini Ghat, with a night at a homestay in the area. Day 2 covers the Devkund waterfall and the return. This Pune to Tamhini Ghat 2 days trip is the one I suggest for most groups.

Option C: A 3 day, 2 night trip
Day 1 is Mulshi and Tamhini. Day 2 is Devkund and the Bhira side. Day 3 is Pawna Lake and a viewpoint on the way back. It is the complete Tamhini Ghat tour package from Pune.

The places worth your time

Mulshi Lake and Dam: A large lake in the hills, a calm first stop on the way, good for photographs.
Tamhini Ghat viewpoints: Roadside spots with views over the valley and the green hills, best in clear weather.
Roadside waterfalls: Seasonal waterfalls along the ghat road, strongest in the monsoon. Stop only at safe, designated spots.
Tamhini Wildlife Sanctuary: Protected forest around the ghat. Follow the forest rules and avoid noise and litter.
Devkund Waterfall (Options B and C): A waterfall with a natural pool near Bhira in Raigad, reached by a short trek. Check current access and safety rules.
Bhira and the Kundalika river area (Option C): A scenic stretch on the Konkan side of the ghat.
Pawna Lake (Option C): A large lake near Lonavala, known for lakeside views and sunsets.

About safety on the ghat and at waterfalls
Every monsoon, accidents happen at waterfalls and pools, usually because of slippery rocks and sudden rises in water. Do not swim or stand in fast-moving water, never go beyond barriers, and follow local police and forest instructions. Alcohol is not allowed at many viewpoints and waterfalls. We check the current restrictions and weather before your trip, and we may change the plan on the day for safety.

What to eat
Try misal pav, vada pav, corn on the cob, hot bhaji and a simple thali. Homestays often serve home-style Maharashtrian meals. Food on the ghat is basic, so plan your meals.

Shopping
There is little organised shopping on the ghat, but roadside stalls sell corn, snacks and seasonal produce. Buy only what you will eat or use, and carry your garbage back.

Which car for which group?
Hatchback or sedan for 1 to 3 people, Ertiga for 4 to 6, Innova Crysta for comfort on the highway, Tempo Traveller for 8 to 17, and a mini bus for larger groups. For narrow ghat roads, we advise smaller vehicles for larger groups where possible.

Where to stay
There are homestays, resorts and farm stays around Mulshi and Tamhini, and hotels in Lonavala and Mangaon for Option C. Rooms fill up on monsoon weekends, so book early.

Practical tips
Start early, carry a rain jacket and water, wear shoes with good grip, avoid plastic, stay behind safety barriers and follow all local rules.
