Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. How far is Bhimashankar from Shirdi by road?
Bhimashankar is roughly 210 to 240 km from Shirdi. The drive takes about five and a half to six and a half hours via Sangamner, Narayangaon, Manchar and Ghodegaon, depending on traffic and the ghat road.
Q2. Can we visit Bhimashankar in one day from Shirdi?
We do not recommend it. A same-day round trip means 10 to 11 hours of driving, including a ghat road, for very little time at the temple. The 2 day option is the shortest plan we offer.
Q3. Can we take Sai Baba darshan before leaving Shirdi?
Yes, if you tell us in advance. We start after your darshan, and the arrival at Bhimashankar shifts later. We must cross the ghat in daylight, so a very late start is not advised. Queue and pass rules are managed by the Shirdi temple trust, so please check the current process.
Q4. How much walking is there at Bhimashankar?
The temple is reached by a flight of steps from the parking and bus area. Gupt Bhimashankar and the viewpoints need extra walking. Please tell us if anyone cannot manage the steps, and we will check what help is available.
Q5. What is the best time to visit Bhimashankar?
October to February is the most comfortable. The monsoon is misty and beautiful but slippery and very crowded. Avoid Mondays, Shravan, Mahashivratri and long weekends if you want a calmer darshan.
Q6. Which is the best option for senior citizens?
Option A or Option B. Both keep the driving in daylight with a night’s rest. Lenyadri and Shivneri involve climbs, and Option B can be adjusted if anyone cannot manage them.
Q7. Can we add Trimbakeshwar or other Jyotirlingas?
Yes. Option C adds Trimbakeshwar. For all five Maharashtra Jyotirlingas, ask us about our Jyotirlinga circuit

Shirdi To Bhimashankar Trip — Travel Guide

Shirdi to Bhimashankar Trip: A Practical Guide by Trip Leads

Bhimashankar is one of the most loved Jyotirlinga trips in Maharashtra, and it fits well after a Shirdi darshan. This guide explains the distance, the route, the places worth your time and how to choose between a two, three or four day trip.

How far is Bhimashankar from Shirdi?
Bhimashankar is roughly 210 to 240 km from Shirdi, depending on the route. The drive takes about five and a half to six and a half hours via Sangamner, Narayangaon, Manchar and Ghodegaon. The last stretch is a ghat road with sharp curves, and weekend and festival traffic can add a lot of time, so start early.

Which road do we take?
We take the Sangamner road to Narayangaon, then the Manchar and Ghodegaon road into the hills. The ghat section needs daylight, so we plan the arrival for the afternoon at the latest. We check the current road condition with our drivers before your trip.

Option A: A 2 day, 1 night trip
Day 1 covers the drive and an afternoon darshan. Day 2 covers an early morning darshan, the viewpoints and the return.

Option B: A 3 day, 2 night trip
Day 1 is Bhimashankar. Day 2 is Ozar and Lenyadri, with a night in Junnar. Day 3 is Shivneri Fort and the return. This is the one I suggest for families.

Option C: A 4 day, 3 night trip
Bhimashankar, then Junnar, then Trimbakeshwar, with two Jyotirlingas in one trip. It is the complete Bhimashankar tour package from Shirdi.

The places worth your time

Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga Temple: A Jyotirlinga on the Sahyadri crest, reached by a flight of steps from the parking and bus area. Allow time for the walk and the queue.
Gupt Bhimashankar: A smaller shrine and a stream below the main temple, associated with the origin of the Bhima river. Check access.
Kamalja Mata Temple: A temple of the goddess Kamalja near the main shrine.
Hanuman Lake and Nagphani Point: A small lake and a viewpoint on the hill, with views over the forest and valley.
Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary: A protected forest with birds and the Shekru. Sightings are by chance, and forest rules apply.
Ozar, Vighnahar Ganapati (Options B and C): One of the Ashtavinayak, on the banks of the Kukadi river, with a distinctive golden dome.
Lenyadri, Girijatmaj (Options B and C): The Ashtavinayak shrine carved inside a Buddhist cave, reached by a long flight of about 300 steps.
Shivneri Fort, Junnar (Options B and C): The hill fort where Shivaji Maharaj was born, with a temple of Shivai Devi and old water tanks. Check the climb and the timings.
Trimbakeshwar (Option C): A Jyotirlinga at the foot of Brahmagiri hill, near the source of the Godavari, with the Kushavarta Kund.

About darshan at Bhimashankar
Lines can be short on weekday mornings and very long on Mondays, Shravan, Mahashivratri and festival days. Dress modestly, and confirm the current rules about phones, bags and footwear. The walk to the temple has steps, so wear comfortable shoes. We plan your darshan for the quietest slot possible.

About the ghat road and weather
The hill is often misty, and visibility on the ghat can drop quickly. Heavy rain can make the road slippery. We drive carefully, avoid night driving on the ghat and may change the plan on the day for safety. Mornings are cool, so carry a light jacket.

What to eat
Try pithla bhakri, misal pav, poha and a simple thali. Near the temples, the food is mostly vegetarian. In Junnar and Nashik, restaurants offer a wider choice.

Shopping
The lanes near the temples sell rudraksha, small Shiva lingams, bel leaves, malas, photos and pooja items. Buy from established shops and compare prices before you pay.

Best time to visit
October to February is the most comfortable. The monsoon is green but slippery and crowded, and summers are warm. Avoid Mondays, Shravan, Mahashivratri and long weekends if you want a calm darshan.

Which car for which group?
Hatchback or sedan for 1 to 3 people, Ertiga for 4 to 6, Innova Crysta for comfort on the highway, Tempo Traveller for 8 to 17, and a mini bus for larger groups. For the narrow ghat road, we advise smaller vehicles for larger groups where possible.

Where to stay
Bhimashankar has a limited number of bhakta niwas, lodges and resorts, and Manchar, Ghodegaon and Junnar have more choice. Rooms fill up quickly on Mondays, festival days and long weekends, so book early.

Practical tips
Start early, carry water and a light jacket, wear footwear that is easy to remove, keep valuables minimal, follow the temple and forest rules and avoid night driving on the ghat.
