Know Before You Go
- Carry a valid government photo ID (Aadhaar/PAN/Passport/DL) for every traveller — hotels and some checkpoints ask for it.
- Pack according to Maharashtra's season — check the local weather a few days before departure and pack accordingly.
- Keep your booking voucher and driver/vehicle details handy (sent by Tripleads after confirmation).
- Please be ready at the pickup point 10–15 minutes before the scheduled time to keep the itinerary on track.
- Carry some cash for personal expenses, tips and anything not covered under Inclusions — card/UPI acceptance can be patchy in remote areas.
- Mobile network can be weak in ghats, valleys and remote stretches of the route — inform family of your rough schedule in advance.
- This is a pilgrimage route — dress modestly at temples, and expect queues during festival dates.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. How far is Lonavala from Shirdi by road?
Lonavala is roughly 250 to 280 km from Shirdi. The drive takes about five and a half to six and a half hours via Sangamner, Narayangaon and Pune, depending on traffic.
Q2. Can we visit Lonavala in one day from Shirdi?
We do not recommend it. A same-day round trip means 10 to 12 hours of driving for very little time on the hills. The 2 day option is the shortest plan we offer.
Q3. Can we do Sai Baba darshan before leaving Shirdi?
Yes, if you tell us in advance. We start after your darshan, and the arrival in Lonavala shifts to the afternoon or evening. Darshan queues and pass rules are managed by the temple trust, so please check the current process.
Q4. What is the best time to visit Lonavala?
October to February is the most comfortable. The monsoon is misty but slippery, crowded and sometimes restricted at waterfalls. Summers are warm. Avoid Diwali, Christmas, New Year and long weekends if you want a quiet visit.
Q5. Is Lohagad Fort suitable for senior citizens?
Lohagad has a climb of steps and takes two to three hours with the walk. Please tell us if anyone cannot manage it, and we can replace it with an easier stop such as Bhaja Caves or a viewpoint.
Q6. What are the best places to visit in Lonavala?
Tiger Point, Karla and Bhaja Caves, Lohagad Fort, Khandala’s Duke’s Nose and Pawna Lake are the main ones.
Q7. What can we buy in Lonavala?
Chikki and fudge are the classic buys. Compare shops and check the date and quality before you buy.

Shirdi To Lonavala Trip — Travel Guide
Shirdi to Lonavala Trip: A Practical Guide by Trip Leads
Lonavala is one of the easiest and most popular hill getaways in Maharashtra, and it fits well after a Shirdi darshan. This guide explains the distance, the route, the places worth your time and how to choose between a two, three or four day trip.
How far is Lonavala from Shirdi?
Lonavala is roughly 250 to 280 km from Shirdi, depending on the route and traffic. The drive takes about five and a half to six and a half hours via Sangamner, Narayangaon and Pune. Weekend traffic around Pune and on the Lonavala approach can add time, so start early.
Option A: A 2 day, 1 night trip
Day 1 covers the drive, Karla Caves and Tiger Point at sunset. Day 2 covers a relaxed morning and the return.
Option B: A 3 day, 2 night trip
Day 1 is the drive and an evening at Tiger Point. Day 2 is Lohagad, Bhaja Caves and Karla Caves. Day 3 is Khandala and the return. This is the one I suggest for most groups.
Option C: A 4 day, 3 night trip
Two nights in Lonavala and one at Pawna Lake, with Lohagad and a stop at Ozar on the way back. It is the complete Lonavala tour package from Shirdi.
The places worth your time
Tiger Point (Lion’s Point): A cliff-edge viewpoint with views over the valley, best at sunrise or sunset. Stay behind barriers.
Lonavala Lake and Bhushi Dam area: A lake and dam area known for its monsoon crowds. Check access rules and any restrictions.

About the caves
Karla and Bhaja Caves are old protected sites with fixed visiting hours and tickets. Allow about one hour at each, wear comfortable shoes and follow the site rules.
What to eat
Try chikki and fudge, corn, vada pav, kanda bhaji, and a simple thali. Vegetarian food is easy to find.
Shopping
Chikki and fudge are the main buys. Compare shops and check the date and quality before you buy.
