Day-wise Itinerary

Day 1: OPTION – 1 DAY TRIP 5:30 AM: Pickup from Shirdi. If you want the morning Sai Baba darshan first, tell us in advance, and we plan a later start with a shorter Pune stay. 8:00 AM: Breakfast near Ahilyanagar or Supa. Poha, misal pav or paratha with tea is enough. 10:00 AM: Reach Pune. Park near the old city and walk to Dagdusheth Ganpati Temple. Dress modestly and follow the temple rules. Weekday mornings are calmer. 11:00 AM: Shaniwar Wada. Walk through the gates and the open grounds, and take a few photographs. 12:30 PM: Lunch. Try Puneri misal or a Maharashtrian thali. 2:00 PM: Aga Khan Palace, a quiet and respectful visit. Check the closing time. 3:30 PM: Start the return drive to Shirdi, with a tea stop on the way. A short stop at Kayani or Chitale Bandhu for biscuits and sweets is easy to add if time allows. 8:30 PM: Expected arrival in Shirdi, depending on traffic. Note: This is a long day with a lot of driving. Pune traffic, festival queues and weekend jams can push the return later. We confirm the plan before booking.
Day 2: OPTION – 2 DAYS / 1 NIGHT Day 1: Shirdi to Pune 7:00 AM: Pickup from Shirdi. 9:00 AM: Breakfast near Ahilyanagar or Supa. A stop at Ranjangaon Mahaganapati can be added on the way, if you wish. 12:00 PM: Reach Pune, check in and have lunch. A short rest is worth it. 2:30 PM: Shaniwar Wada. 4:00 PM: Kasba Ganpati, then a walk through the Tulshibaug market lanes. Keep valuables safe. 6:00 PM: Dagdusheth Ganpati Temple, evening darshan. Keep a buffer for the queue. 7:30 PM: Laxmi Road or a Peth-area restaurant for dinner, and overnight stay. Day 2: Aga Khan Palace, Museum, Chaturshringi and Return 7:30 AM: Breakfast and check-out. 8:30 AM: Aga Khan Palace. 10:30 AM: Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum, if open on your day. Pune is roughly 185 to 210 km from Shirdi. The drive takes about four to five hours via Ahilyanagar and Shirur, depending on the route and traffic.
Q2. Can we visit Pune in one day from Shirdi?
Yes, if you leave by 5:30 am and start back by about 3:30 pm. It is a long day with eight to nine hours of driving, so it suits fit adults. For a relaxed pace, or with senior citizens, choose the 2 day option.
Q3. Can we take Sai Baba darshan before leaving Shirdi?
Yes, if you tell us in advance. We start after your darshan, and the arrival in Pune shifts later. Queue and pass rules are managed by the Shirdi temple trust, so please check the current process.
Q4. What are the Dagdusheth Ganpati timings?
The temple generally opens early in the morning and stays open until late night. Timings, aarti schedules and rules can change on Sankashti, Angarki and festival days, so we confirm them when your trip is finalised.
Q5. What is the best time to visit Pune?
October to February is the most comfortable. The monsoon is green but wet, and summers are hot. Avoid Ganesh Utsav, Navratri, Diwali and long weekends if you want a quiet visit.
Q6. Can we add Ranjangaon Ganpati on the way?
Yes. Ranjangaon Mahaganapati is on the road via Shirur, and a darshan stop adds roughly one to one and a half hours. Tell us when you book, and we adjust the plan.
Q7. Which is the best option for senior citizens?
Option B. It gives a relaxed arrival day, fewer steps and a shorter return. Shaniwar Wada and Parvati Hill involve walking and steps, so please tell us if anyone cannot manage them, and we will choose the stops accordingly.

Shirdi To Pune Trip — Travel Guide

Shirdi to Pune Trip: A Practical Guide by Trip Leads

Pune is one of the easiest and most rewarding trips from Shirdi, and it fits well after a Sai Baba darshan. This guide explains the distance, the route, the places worth your time and how to choose between a one, two or three day trip.

How far is Pune from Shirdi?
Pune is roughly 185 to 210 km from Shirdi, depending on the route and the part of Pune you are going to. The drive takes about four to five hours. Traffic near Shirur, Wagholi and the city entry can add a lot of time on weekends and festival days, so start early.

Which road do we take?
We usually go via Ahilyanagar (Ahmednagar), Supa and Shirur to Pune, and we can also take the Sangamner and Narayangaon route if the main road is slow. Ranjangaon Mahaganapati, one of the Ashtavinayak temples, lies on the first route, and we can add it as a stop. We check the current road condition and toll points with our drivers before your trip.

Option A: A 1 day trip
A Shirdi to Pune one day trip works if you leave by 5:30 am. See Dagdusheth Ganpati and Shaniwar Wada, have lunch, visit the Aga Khan Palace and start back by 3:30 pm. It is a long day, so it suits fit adults only.

Option B: A 2 day, 1 night trip
Day 1 covers the drive, Shaniwar Wada, Kasba Ganpati and Dagdusheth in the evening. Day 2 covers the Aga Khan Palace, the Kelkar Museum and Chaturshringi before the return. This is the one I suggest for families.

Option C: A 3 day, 2 night trip
Day 1 is the old city. Day 2 is Sinhagad, Khadakwasla and the Aga Khan Palace. Day 3 is Pataleshwar Caves, Parvati Hill, Alandi and Dehu. It is the complete Pune tour package from Shirdi.

The places worth your time

Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Temple: Pune’s best-known Ganesh temple, in the old city. Queues are long on Sankashti, Angarki and during Ganesh Utsav.
Kasba Ganpati and Tambdi Jogeshwari: Old temples in the Kasba Peth area. Kasba Ganpati is the gram-daivat (village deity) of Pune.
Shaniwar Wada: The Peshwa palace-fort, with its large gates and remains of the old complex. Check the evening light show and the ticket rules.
Tulshibaug and Laxmi Road: The old market lanes, known for brass, utensils, sarees and Ganesh items.
Aga Khan Palace: A palace linked with Mahatma Gandhi and Kasturba Gandhi, now a memorial and museum. Check timings.
Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum: A large private collection of Indian artefacts, from lamps to musical instruments. Check the opening days.
Chaturshringi Temple: A hillside temple of the goddess Chaturshringi, very busy during Navratri.
Parvati Hill (Option C): A hilltop temple complex with Peshwa-era shrines and a city view, reached by a climb of steps.
Pataleshwar Caves (Option C): An eighth-century rock-cut Shiva temple in the middle of the city.
Sinhagad Fort (Option C): A hill fort linked with the Battle of Sinhagad and Tanaji Malusare, southwest of Pune. Avoid weekends.
Khadakwasla Dam and Lake (Option C): A lake at the foot of the hills, popular at sunset.
Alandi and Dehu (Option C): The towns of Saint Dnyaneshwar and Saint Tukaram, the heart of the Warkari tradition.
Ranjangaon Mahaganapati (optional, on the way): An Ashtavinayak temple that can be added on the road to or from Shirdi.

About temple darshan in Pune
Dagdusheth and Chaturshringi can have long queues on festival days, weekends and Chaturthi days. Dress modestly, and confirm the current rules about phones, bags and footwear. We plan your darshan for the quietest slot possible.

Pune traffic
Pune traffic is heaviest from about 8:30 to 11:00 in the morning and from 5:30 to 8:30 in the evening on weekdays, and the Peth lanes are crowded on weekends. We plan the order of stops to avoid the worst jams, and we use a nearby parking spot for the old city.

What to eat
Try Puneri misal, sabudana khichdi, thalipeeth, bakarwadi and mastani. Kayani Bakery is known for Shrewsbury biscuits. Chitale Bandhu is known for sweets and bakarwadi. Choose busy places and drink bottled water.

Shopping
Laxmi Road, Tulshibaug and Mahatma Phule Mandai are the classic old city shopping areas. FC Road and Camp are good for modern shopping. Compare prices before you buy.

Best time to visit
October to February is the most comfortable. The monsoon is green but wet, and summers are hot. Avoid Ganesh Utsav, Navratri, Diwali and long weekends if you want a quiet visit.

Which car for which group?
Hatchback or sedan for 1 to 3 people, Ertiga for 4 to 6, Innova Crysta for comfort on the highway, Tempo Traveller for 8 to 17, and a mini bus for larger groups. For narrow Peth lanes, a smaller car is easier.

Where to stay
Pune has hotels at every budget. Staying near Shivajinagar, Deccan or Camp makes it easy to reach the old city and the museums. Rooms fill up quickly on weekends and holiday dates, so book early.

Practical tips
Start early, carry water and a cap, wear comfortable shoes, keep valuables safe in crowded lanes, follow the temple rules and avoid peak traffic hours.
